Western District. Central to the Malee and Wimmera Wheat belt. A big country town close to the Grampian National Park.
But be careful. You may not want to leave.
Getting there.
Getting to Horsham is easy. By car along the Western Highway that runs between Adelaide and Melbourne. If you are travelling from Melbourne, you can check out some wineries at Great Western. A little further on is Dadswell Bridge and ‘The Big Koala’.
Time for a ‘selfie’. The next 6 to 8 klms look out for Kangaroos. Being so close to the Grampians, Kangaroos are prolific in the area.
You can travel by bus. Western Victoria is serviced very well by bus lines. Frequent, and they come from most large towns and cities.
Then there is my favorite. The train. Meet The Overlander.
Australia has several ‘Intercontinental’ train services. Think of The Ghan, or The West Coaster where you can spend 3- or 4-days travelling on them.
The Overlander runs between Adelaide and Melbourne and stops in Horsham. Travel here by train, spend 2 or 3 days exploring then jump back on it to complete your journey.

Horsham International Hotel. Located next to the highway and 300 meters from where the Overlander stops.
Downtown there’s The Comfort Inn Capital. Just a short stroll to The Botanical Gardens and the Wimmera River. A walking path of up to 4 kilometers and if you are a bookworm, a great place to sit and escape.
The Comfort Inn May Park. Family friendly, opposite May Park and 1 minute to all the popular fast-food outlets.
Eat and Drink
As you wander the streets there are some great little cafes and coffee shops. Australia makes the best coffee in the world, and Horsham is no exception.
The RSL (Returned Servicemen’s Club) and The Horsham Social Club.
both have extensive menus and won’t break the bank. Head to one of the Pubs for a great steak. If you are thinking Asian, Saengjin Thai. Delicious food and sublime atmosphere.
